February is often toted as the month for love. There are bright red hearts, piles of candies, and boxes of chocolates everywhere you look. It’s like the holiday that wants as much attention as Christmas and is the best for dividing people between loving the holiday or hating it. I’ve sat somewhere in the middle which is surprising because I’m a bit in love with LOVE! 🙂
I’m not a big fan of the consumerism focused Valentines day celebrations. Especially the candy hearts that more resemble an antacid than they do real happiness. BUT, I’m a big fan of real love. Love that touches everyone’s life in a meaningful way.
We are so human that we need dates on our calendar and ginormous red balloons to remind us that giving and receiving love is the best part of life! We were made to love and be loved!
if you want to, and choose instead to find a way that really speaks love to those around you. Take time to understand them fully enough to know what thoughtful act would be the picture of love to someone else. My mom has always loved having her hair brushed and I remember when I was a little girl I would love brushing her hair, serving her, and loving her with my actions. I don’t think that my life holds enough of that these days! Sometimes I get so blinded by that oppressive to-do-list that I forget the little moments in-between are moments of substance!
Let’s be intentional about speaking love not out of obligation or tradition. Let’s choose our words meaningfully and put them on a card to send to those who’ve touched your life. Pick a time to take a break from the busy normal routine to do something different. You might just surprise yourself how wonderful it is to give love.
” My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite. “
-William Shakespeare Romeo and Juliet
